GeoSentinel, a collaboration between the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the International Society of Travel Medicine (ISTM), is a global, clinical-care–based surveillance and research network of travel and tropical medicine sites that monitors infectious diseases and other adverse health events that affect international travelers. GeoSentinel is seeking a highly skilled and collaborative Data Scientist to support the network’s global surveillance and research activities through advanced analytics, data systems management, and geospatial analysis. This role is responsible for maintaining the integrity, quality, and usability of network-wide data and supporting both core surveillance operations and research initiatives. Apply by July 28, 2026.

The Data Scientist will design and manage standardized data collection frameworks, oversee data pipelines and quality control procedures, and conduct statistical and geospatial analyses in collaboration with network leadership and CDC partners. The role also includes developing dashboards, automated reporting systems, and analytical tools that support network operations and scientific outputs.

This will be a remote, full-time, fixed-term contract position, designed for an experienced data scientist who will work closely with a part-time Scientific Director. The salary range for this position is 110,000 USD to 118,000 USD.

Our preference is for candidates with the United States who are available immediately. The Data Scientist is engaged for a term coinciding with the current NOFO award period, which currently supports employment through August 31, 2027, with anticipated opportunity for extension pending additional funding. Continuation beyond the first term is subject to satisfactory performance, mutual agreement, and availability of funding under a renewed NOFO award. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and maintain work-wide data collection frameworks, variables, and measurement standards 
  - Manage data pipelines, cleaning procedures, and quality assurance processes 
  - Conduct statistical and geospatial analyses to support surveillance and research activities 
  - Develop analytical tools, dashboards, and automated reporting systems 
  - Collaborate with the CDC Project Officer on data formatting, submission, and governance requirements 
  - Ensure compliance with CDC database standards and federal data governance guidelines 
  - Support project-specific analytical planning and data collection design for externally funded projects 
  - Advise on analytical feasibility, methodology, and data requirements 
  - Ensure project data standards align with the broader GeoSentinel network database and reporting expectations
• The ideal candidate will have expertise in epidemiologic or public health data analysis, statistical modeling, geospatial analysis, and database management, with experience supporting collaborative, multi-site research or surveillance initiatives. Strong technical, analytical, and communication skills are essential.

Requirements

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Health Administration or equivalent with related experience.  
• 3+ years of experience in data science, machine learning, or related data analytical role.
• Experience in mining and cleaning data
• Knowledge common travel related diagnosis and ability to decipher  
• Understanding of statistical analysis and experimental design principles
• Ability to write complex queries to extract, clean, and manage large datasets
• Expertise with visualization tools used to explore and analyze raw data
• Ability to translate and communicate complex quantitative data into clear, non-technical presentations for clinical audiences
• High accuracy in validating data trends 

Preferred Qualifications

• Master of Public Health or equivalent advanced degree
• Experience working with CDC or other national public health agencies
