Pay Range
$229,440 - $294,672 annually
Job Description
We have an opening for a Senior Computer Scientist to perform work in the areas of High-Performance Computing (HPC) hardware, architectures and system software. You will carry out research in the development, evaluation, and optimization of novel processor, node, and system designs. Target application areas include optimizations for advanced HPC, artificial intelligence (AI), and cloud-like architectures. This position is in the Center for Applied Scientific Computing (CASC) Division within the Computing Directorate.
This position offers a hybrid schedule, blending in-person and virtual presence. You will have the flexibility to work from home one or more days per week.
You will
- Provide highly advanced technical leadership; maintain and ensure excellence in execution of projects and ensure quality standards for deliverables; manage multiple parallel tasks and priorities of customers and stakeholders to ensure deadlines are met.
- Conduct research and develop innovative solutions to highly complex problems or ideas, transforming them into useable solutions or algorithms. Provide solutions that require in-depth analysis of multiple factors and the creative use of established methods.
- Document extensive research results and development progress via technical reports, publishing papers in peer-reviewed media and presenting papers within the DOE community.
- Develop new program growth opportunities by interactions with current and potential sponsors and the development of research and grant proposals.
- Direct a portfolio of complex technical tasks and projects; establish a broad research/project vision and strategy and influence technical direction for Laboratory, self and/or others.
- Represent the Laboratory as the primary technical contact for large projects and serve on external scientific or technical committees.
- Support the Laboratory in attracting and retaining projects, programs, funding, and staff.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Ability to obtain and maintain a US DOE Q-level security clearance which requires U.S. Citizenship.
- Ph.D. in Computer Science or related field, or the equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Extensive experience and demonstrated ability to champion, apply, lead, and develop cutting edge principles, theories, concepts, and technologies in HPC systems.
- Expert knowledge and experience conducting high quality, independent research and developing implementations to evaluate results.
- Extensive experience developing complex software as part of a multidisciplinary team.
Extensive experience in operating systems, programming languages, and parallel programming models. - Expert knowledge and experience in HPC hardware evaluation, optimization, and large-scale computation.
- Expert knowledge and experience in cloud computing.
- Extensive experience in identification of highly complex problems and providing solutions in a creative and timely manner.
- Advanced verbal and written communication skills necessary to effectively collaborate in a team environment, author technical and scientific reports and papers, and deliver scientific presentations.
- Extensive experience interacting with a multi-disciplinary research team, authoring technical and scientific reports and papers, and delivering scientific presentations.
- Expert communication, facilitation, and collaboration skills necessary to present, explain, and advise senior management and/or external sponsors.

Security Clearance
This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance. If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. Also, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing. Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.
Pre-Employment Drug Test
